Tai Hang Road Rest Garden
Tai Hang Road is a winding north-south road linking Causeway Bay, Tai Hang and Jardine’s Lookout. Tai Hang Road Rest Garden is located on top of a slope within the project area of Civil Engineering and Development Department’s Landslip Prevention and Mitigation Programme (2017, Package F). It was first opened to the public in 1974 as a playground, then renamed a rest garden in the 1980s and received a renovation and redesign in 2001. The rest garden uses circular forms as their main geometric language, including circular walkways, flower beds with various shrubs and a fitness garden with five circles of different sizes overlapping, intersecting or linking together to form new units of social space. Various kinds of shrubs growing within and outside the planters, including Othiopogon japanicus, Ilex crenata, Syzygium jambos, Gardenia jasminoides, and Mussaenda erythrophylla, have been carefully pruned. With their heights ranging from 40 cm to 160 cm, these shrubs are unique elements that enrich visual and spatial layering along the walkway.
