Shui Tau Road Sitting-out Area

2003年，由於時稱九廣西鐵（即今屯馬綫 ）在錦田一帶需要修建鐵路高架橋而破壞了錦田河流域原有的部分濕地，因此根據生態補償原則需要在高架橋旁重置濕地以履行環保承諾。水頭路休憩處位於錦田錦慶圍的西南角，為錦田河南端河口、相關排水渠道和西鐵補償濕地的交匯處，建於水頭路掉頭處專門劃出的臺地之上，於2019年開放。休憩處為一個方正的開放廣場，佔地約655平方米，場地的西北角設置中式涼亭，並在涼亭周圍擺放黑卵石造型的坐凳，供遊人駐足欣賞濕地景觀。休憩處的南部為長者健身站和兒童遊樂區，背靠以六邊形格柵為特色墻的遮陰廊，為社區開闢一個長幼共融的互動場所。

In 2003, parts of the wetland in Kam Tin River basin were destroyed due to the construction of a railway viaduct of the then-called KCR West Rail (now Tuen Ma Line) in Kam Tin area. Numerous wetland parcels had to be created under the West Rail habitat compensation to fulfil the environmental protection commitment. Shui Tau Road Sitting-out Area is located at the southwest corner of Kam Hing Wai village, at the junction of the Kam Tin River’s southern estuary, drainage channels and a parcel of the compensation wetland. It was built on a specially designated terrace at the U-turn of Shui Tau Road and opened in 2019. The sitting-out area is a square-shaped open plaza, covering an area of 655 square metres. A Chinese-style pavilion is set up in the northwest corner of the site, and black pebble-shaped seats are placed around the pavilion for visitors to stop and enjoy the wetland landscape. The southern part of the site is equipped with an elderly fitness station and a children’s playground, backed by a shade pavilion that provides a place for intergenerational interactions in the community.
