In 1978, HK Electric built the Lamma Power Station on the west coast of northern Lamma Island, making it the largest industrial complex on the island. The Tai Wan To Sitting-out Area is located along the road at the northeast entrance of the power station. It is a linear open space of about 60 metres in length with an area of about 280 square metres. The sitting-out area was converted from agricultural land in 2016 under LCSD’s District Minor Works Programme. Four sets of shelters and benches imitating white waves along the seaside are installed, and a fence is used as a boundary to separate the site from the bushes in the background. The straight site spreads in an east-west direction along the road and the beach, and the spectacular coast in the distance is presented to visitors by way of borrowed scenery. Without complex design language, the venue is dominated by the ever-changing natural elements of wind, light, sea and horizon. Whether it’s the strong sea breeze or the breath-taking sunset, visitors can experience it all from this site.
