Blue Pool Road is named after the old Blue Pool, a lake in Wong Nai Chung Village, Happy Valley, where its water originates from a stream at Wong Nai Chung Gap. Over the decades, the area around Lam Tong Road has developed into a low-density luxury residential area. Located in the middle section of Blue Pool Road, the entrance of the sitting-out area is around 2 metres wide and barely noticeable from the road. Formerly a triangular vacant lot, the site was converted into a sitting-out area in 1987. Measured around 245 square metres, the sitting-out area occupies a L-shaped corner semi-encircling the residential buildings of Blue Garden, and is separated from the building by fences covered with climbing plants such as Epiprennum aureum Bunt. and Rohdea japonica. The culvert at the southeast foot of Jardine’s Lookout is located directly beneath the site, so additional benches are provided for visitors to view the gushing drains from upstream, awakening a keen sense of nature. Light can only enter the site through gaps between the buildings. With confined space and humid microclimate, this sitting-out area is cool and tranquil and suitable for the growth of Hymenocallis littoralis (Jacq.) Salisb., Cordyline fruticosa, Rhapis excelsa, and Dracaena fragrans variegata.
