Ngan Shing Street Sitting-out Area

愉田苑於1982至1983年間落成，為沙田新市鎮內最早期的「居者有其屋」計劃下的居屋物業，於填海所得的土地而建。與屋苑相鄰的中學於1985年啟用，與之留下了一片細小而狹窄的空地，直至2010年才開闢為休憩處。休憩處所在的銀城街同樣於1982年因區內首個且最大型的私人屋苑沙田第一城而得建和被命名。場地佔地僅有98平方米，佈置簡單，有一條長約10米的卵石路步行徑和數張長椅。愉田苑入口的綠化帶緊鄰與之，可軟化僅有硬質鋪裝的場地，並與之融為一體，在冷酷的建築氛圍中形成小小的避風港。另有一條通往屋苑平台的筆直的行人坡道架置於綠化帶上方，進一步強調空間的圍合感，在野生無序與人工幾何之間建立對比與融合。

Completed between 1982 and 1983, Yue Tin Court was the earliest Home Ownership Scheme property in Sha Tin New Town and was built on reclaimed land. A small and narrow piece of land was formed between the estate and its adjacent secondary school opened in 1985. This small idle land didn’t become a sitting-out area until 2010. Ngan Shing Street, where the sitting-out area is located, was built during the construction of City One Shatin in 1982, the first and largest private housing estate in the area. The site occupies only 98 square metres and has a simple design. It is equipped with a 10-metre-long pebble walkway and a few benches. The buffer plants located at the entrance of Yue Tin Court leans against the sitting-out area, softening the hard-paved site and blending in with it. Moreover, a straight pedestrian ramp leading to the estate podium enhanced spatial enclosure, creating both contrast and integration between unruled wilderness and man-made geometry.
