Ma Ying Path Rest Garden
Formerly a dredging area established by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the construction of the Sha Tin Racecourse, Kau To Shan was resumed by the Government upon the opening of the racecourse in 1978 and was developed into a low-density residential area in the early 1980s. It is a traditional luxury residential area in the eastern New Territories. This rest garden is located next to the southern end roundabout of the Kau To Shan Ma Ying Path. It has three crescent-shaped lookouts and a path leading down to the MTR Racecourse station. On the east side of the garden is a raised Chinese pavilion overlooking Shing Mun River. On the south end, there is a small circular plaza surrounded by Bougainvillea spectabilis and only two benches. Along the edge of the road, there are three sets of purple-red canopied pavilions and benches, creating an atmosphere of peace and comfort during springtime bloom of colourful Bougainvillea spectabilis. As the years have passed, the woods on the hill have blocked the view of the rest garden towards the racecourse. Visitors can only peer through the trees to try catch a glimpse of the horses.
