Sheung Sze Wan Sitting-out Area
The top of a mount behind Sheung Sze Wan Beach was flattened to form a picnic area by the Government in 1987, with a wide 270-degree view of the sea and plentiful sea breeze to enjoy. In the early 1990s, the squire of Sheung Sze Wan relocated the Ksitigarbha Shrine to the entrance of the picnic site. It is said that the deity has been worshipped for 300 years and has been tended to by the faithful, keeping company with the waves and the flora, sheltering and blessing the villagers of Sheung Sze Wan. The site was converted into a sitting-out area in 2005 with the addition of two sets of arbours. However, the area is often frequented by boars, knocking over rubbish bins and littering, resulting in poor hygiene conditions. With the villas and holiday homes popping up around the beach, the shrublands adjacent to the mount have been neglected. Consequently, it is now difficult to capture the beach view from the sitting-out area, which has degraded into a resting place for nearby water sports people.
