Sheung Ko Tan Street Sitting-out Area

Sheung Ko Tan Street bisects Chung Mei Lo Uk Village, delineating three sitting-out areas of different sizes with the eastern corner of the village. The largest one is beside the footbridge between Sheung Ko Tan Street and Tsing Yi Heung Tsz Wui Road. The L-shaped sitting-out area, protruding and piling up with soil slopes of 4 metres high, forms the ‘backyard mountain’ of Lutheran New Village, Tai Wong Pak Kung Temple, Tai Yum Leung Leung Temple and Chun Kwan Temple, scattered with Dypsis lutescens. This feature is likely due to Feng Shui purposes or for Houtu, the Chinese deity of the earth and soil, to settle in, which are difficult to verify. The other exit of the sitting-out area is close to Pak Kung Temple, with banners and colourful flags covering surrounding fences, depicting birthdays of various deities. On days of worship, such as the Lunar New Year and its 15th, Hakka villagers worship deities with incense.
