Kwun Hoi Path Sitting-out Area
Kwun Hoi Path is a 130-metre-long coastal boulevard on land reclaimed from the Aberdeen Reclamation in the 1990s and named in 2001, where a sitting-out area and several public piers were constructed along the shore. In 2009, the Government carried out improvement works at the Kwun Hoi Path Sitting-out Area as part of a larger project that promoted the Southern District and Aberdeen as a tourist destination. Shade shelters, seats and signage with local characteristics to guide visitors to sampans and provide resting areas for waiting passengers were added to the site. The 100-metre-long undulating white canopy for shading frames the coastal landscape and seems floating above the water when seen from a distance. The canopy transitions and softens the boundary between the residential buildings and the coast, creating an experience from heavy to light. The space beneath the canopy is like the bottom of a wave, giving different physical forms of light and darkness in the changing sunlight.
