Sycamore Street Rest Garden
In Tai Kok Tsui and Sham Shui Po, numerous streets were named after plants, such as Cherry Street, Ash Street and Walnut Street. Sycamore Street was no different. However, Sycamore was referred to as ‘Flowerless-fruit Street’ in Chinese, as opposed to the Chinese cultural preference towards fertility. Thus, the street’s name was transliterated into Si-gor-mo, meaning ‘Poem-song-dance’ Street. The rest garden is located at the junction of Sycamore and Boundary Streets, and it is connected to the Sycamore Street playground, forming an ‘L’ shape. It is equipped with elderly fitness equipment and a children’s playground, as well as shade shelters and canopies covered in climbers.
