Luen Wan Street Sitting-out Area

When the Mong Kok Railway Station (renamed Mong Kok East Station in 2007 due to the MTR–KCR merger) was rebuilt and completed in 1982, Luen Wan Street was already opened to traffic, connecting Argyle and Bute Streets. In 1985, the bus terminal on the train station platform was opened, and Luen Wan Street became the only point of access for public transport interchange. The sitting-out area is surrounded by Luen Wan Street, with 3 metres of level difference between the north and south ends, forming a droplet-shaped gentle slope. The northern entrance connects to the train station platform, whereas the southern entrance meets at Luen Wan Street’s U-turn, acting as a multidirectional buffer zone. Along the ramp is a shaded corridor, a fitness facility and two vegetated pavilions with seating for passengers waiting at the adjacent bus stop or heading to the train station. Moreover, at the venue is a sculpture of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council, echoing the distant Mong Kok government offices above the platform of the train station.
